A graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Obi has always held women, the family and social service close to her heart. While giving national service as part of the Youth Corp she helped run the Cancer Screening Centre of the Lagos state branch of the Medical Women's Association of Nigeria. Her going on to specialize in obstetrics and gynaecology was no surprise to her peers. On completing her training at the State University of New York in Buffalo, she returned to Nigeria and worked at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. Since then she has been the public face of this organization, representing it at both national and international lobby events and conferences.
